Moldovan President invites citizens to Sovereignty March

President Maia Sandu invited citizens to participate in the Sovereignty March on 23 June evening. The event organized in the capital is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.

"Today we celebrate the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. Thirty-five years ago, we were united by the tricolor, the desire for independence, and the belief in a free future. But above all, we were united by our love for this land. Let us be united today by the same values: the aspiration for freedom, real and guaranteed sovereignty, respect for our history, and national dignity. See you at 19:00, at the March of Sovereignty—to remember together the day we loudly declared that the destiny of Moldova belongs to Moldovans," Maia Sandu wrote.

The Sovereignty March will begin at 19:00, at the monument dedicated to Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici on Alexei Mateevici Street in the capital, in the presence of artists Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici and Simona. Subsequently, participants will embark on a commemorative march to the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova—the place where the Declaration of Sovereignty was adopted in 1990.

At the Presidency, speeches will be delivered by Maia Sandu and President of the "Parliament '90" Association Ion Hadârcă. The artistic program will feature Vali Boghean, Simona, and Radu Dolgan together with the band "Noroc."

Additionally, on this occasion, a photo exhibition dedicated to the 35 years since the proclamation of sovereignty was inaugurated at the Presidency—a visual journey into the atmosphere of those hopeful days when thousands of people chose freedom, dignity, and a democratic future.

Participants are encouraged to wear a traditional shirt.

Today Moldova marks the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty, a fundamental document that paved the way to the country's independence. The act was voted on June 23, 1990, by the deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan SSR.
