President on Vladislav Kulminski's candidacy for ambassador to USA
The Republic of Moldova wishes to continue its very good relations with the United States of America and to benefit from American support in implementing energy projects. 'It is an area of utmost interest for us – to strengthen the relationship with the USA,' President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state said that if Vladislav Kulminski is proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the position of ambassador, he would be a suitable choice, given the new administration's approach in Washington and Chisinau's objective to develop a very good relationship with the USA. 'The new ambassador will have to work in this direction,' emphasized the president.
'The approach of the new administration has changed, and certain things need to be re-discussed. We had meetings with representatives of Congress – both Democrats and Republicans. We had very good discussions, but yes, there are also new topics on the agenda that we will need to discuss, and the new ambassador will have an important role in this regard,' said Maia Sandu to Cinema1 station.
The president reiterated the importance of strengthening the relationship with the USA, emphasizing that this partnership has brought tangible benefits to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
'We still need very good relations with the USA. We have greatly benefited from their support and are very grateful for the multiple projects – repairing schools, kindergartens, roads, and even some churches, tourism projects. It is an area of utmost interest for us,' the head of state stated.
Even though Washington's administration priorities have changed, the Republic of Moldova expresses its willingness to respect the USA's decisions and hopes to continue the collaboration, especially in the energy sector.
'Priorities have changed in Washington. We respect any decision the American administration will make. If we can continue certain projects in the energy sector, we would be very pleased. If not, then we will discuss co-financing these with other partners, especially with the European Union,' stated Maia Sandu.
The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved at the 30 May meeting a positive consultative opinion for Vladislav Kulminski's candidacy for the position of Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the United States of America.
