Support for students relocated to larger schools: Ministry of Education announces measures to facilitate transition

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated today that the relocation of students from smaller schools to larger educational institutions is a complex process that involves emotions and uncertainties for families. The official emphasized that the common goal of the ministry, teachers and parents is to ensure the psychological well-being of the children and improve their preparation for life.

The minister mentioned in a post that there are schools in the country with less than 35 students, including institutions with fewer than 10 children. Under these conditions, authorities consider it necessary to provide institutions with teachers for each subject and with modern infrastructure. Dan Perciun urged the depoliticization of the subject and the concentration of efforts from all actors involved to support families in transition.

According to the Minister of Education, the process targets 1,328 students out of the over 330,000 enrolled in the system, and the institution will ensure the necessary support for each of them.

Thus, the ministry announced several support measures: over 1,000 students will have to travel less than 10 kilometers to the new institution, with transportation provided by modern and safe school buses; transportation will be free of charge; relocated students' families will receive a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei for two years; teachers will benefit from assistance from the educational directorates in finding employment opportunities in the district and compensating for transportation costs; teachers needing relocation will be able to access an allowance of up to 300,000 lei to take up employment in another district.

In recent years, the Ministry of Education has been promoting the reorganization of the school network to optimize resource use and ensure equal access to quality education. Schools with small enrollments frequently face a lack of teachers for certain subjects and insufficient infrastructure, limiting the quality of the educational process. Authorities argue that larger schools can offer modern conditions, varied programs, and specialized teachers for all subjects.
