VIDEO// Drug seizure worth 20 million lei: Two refugees from Ukraine detained

Two women from Ukraine, refugees in the Republic of Moldova, have been detained following a drug seizure valued at about 20,000,000 lei. The drugs were reportedly received through smuggled packages.

According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, the packages contained 19 kg of narcotic and psychoactive substances, including heroin, mephedrone, methadone, ketamine, amphetamine, cocaine, and 600 ecstasy pills. All drugs have been confiscated and will be used as evidence in the criminal case.

The women, aged 30 and 33, were bringing the packages to their temporary residence in Chișinău, portioning them, and later selling them through the mobile application Telegram.

According to the Criminal Code, the two women face up to 15 years in prison following the submission of the case to court and sentencing.
