Moldovan PM has dialogue with President of European Economic and Social Committee
The current regional situation, the advancement of Moldova’s European path, and the cooperation between our country and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) have been discussed by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Séamus Boland, President of the EESC, during his first foreign visit to Chisinau.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that Moldova cannot miss the window of opportunity for integration into the European Union and that the government was working intensively to align with European standards and improve citizens’ lives. In addition to accelerating EU accession, the focus is on economic growth, justice reform and strengthening peace and security.
For his part, the EESC President expressed strong support for the country’s integration into the European Union and the readiness to provide assistance in the fields of labor and social protection.
An important topic of the discussions was strengthening the role of civil society and youth involvement, including in the EU accession process. Prime Minister Munteanu noted that the government maintained an active dialogue with civil society’s representatives. The officials also discussed the current regional situation, the consequences of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the Transnistrian issue, combating propaganda and protecting the information space.
The European Economic and Social Committee is an EU consultative body that represents employers’ organizations, workers and other interest groups, and acts as a bridge between the EU decision-making institutions and European citizens.
