Head of State together with speaker met with representatives of Gagauz Autonomy
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu together with Speaker Igor Grosu held consultations with mayors of localities from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTAG) and members of the Popular Assembly of UTAG, in the context of the deadlock created in organizing elections in the autonomy.
During the meetings, the President and the Speaker reiterated the firm position of the central authorities in favor of holding free and fair elections, emphasizing the need for transparency and compliance with national regulations. The responsibility of both central and regional bodies is to ensure a fair electoral process in which the inhabitants of the autonomy can freely decide its future.
Following the consultations, it was agreed to create a working group, including representatives of central institutions, the Popular Assembly and the region’s mayors. Its objective will be to develop the necessary solutions and create the conditions for holding free and fair elections in Gagauzia as soon as possible.
