Support for development of sport in Moldova: government approved Programme on Implementation of Sport 2030 Strategy for 2026–2028
The modernization of sports infrastructure, support for performance, improvement of teachers’ training and stimulating mass sports participation are the main goals of the Perogramme on Implementation of the Sport 2030 Development Strategy for 2026-2030, approved by the government today.
To modernize sports infrastructure, the Programme provides for the construction and modernization of at least 10 multifunctional sports complexes by 2028. Investments will lead to an increase of at least 30 per cent in the total number of facilities endowed with amenities, such as pools, arenas, running tracks and other equipment necessary for conducting sports activities at all levels of education.
“We will promote sports in schools – 50 sports grounds will be built; we will expand the number of school championships in various district and national sports disciplines by 3–5 championships, and we aim to increase the number of children enrolled in sports schools by 20per cent, to increase the number of registered sportspeople from 6,000 to 10,000, as well as to boost the number of mass sports events organized,” said Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun.
One of the main objectives focuses on strengthening training centers for national teams, including setting up anti-doping control stations and implementing modern mechanisms for monitoring athletes’ professional pathways.
As for elite sports, financial support for national sports federations will be increased. At the same time, actions are envisaged for the development of human resources through continuing training programmes for coaches, teachers, referees, psychologists and other specialists in the field, as well as through strengthening sports medical services.
The implementation of the measures provided for in the Programme will contribute to improving the sports performance of Moldova nationally and internationally. At the same time, the practice of sports activities will be widely encouraged, including by increasing the number of sports events and activities.
Also today, the Education and Research Ministry approved a decision on improving the quality of textbooks, in addition to recent changes in this regard. Presently, in textbooks’ procurement, the winner is determined 90-per cent based on textbooks’ quality and only 10 per cent based on price. The Ministry is in the process of purchasing Estonian mathematics textbooks, which will reach schools starting from September 2027.
The amendments proposed today are meant to support the goal of improving the quality of school textbooks. Thus, it will be allowed to spend up to 15 per cent of the total cost for the development and printing of textbooks, in order to ensure the evaluation of their quality. Until now, this amount has been at the level of 2–3 per cent. In addition, besides the 5 people who evaluate the textbook, it will be possible to consult experts on various segments, such as financial education, in order to assess textbooks from different perspectives.
