Moldova, Israel strengthen legal cooperation: parliament to ratify new agreement
Moldova will conclude a Legal Cooperation Agreement in civil and commercial matters with the State of Israel, following a proposal by the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration to parliament's plenum to ratify the treaty.
The document aims to create a platform for legal dialogue between the authorities of Moldova and of the State of Israel. The implementation of the Agreement will facilitate the forwarding of legal assistance requests for getting evidence, the communication of judicial and extrajudicial acts, as well as the recognition and enforcement of judgments rendered by the courts of both states.
After the ratification of the Agreement, requests for legal assistance will be submitted through Moldova’s Justice Ministry and the Department for Legal Assistance between Countries at the Israeli Courts Administration. Presently, such requests are made either based on the principle of reciprocity or under the the current international treaties.
At the same time, the provisions of the Agreement will not apply in the field of social assistance, tax recovery, fines or other sanctions, as well as in other matters related to public administration. Also, the treaty does not concern the recognition and enforcement of court decisions relating to the civil status of individuals, including marriage, divorce, establishment of paternity or guardianship.
The agreement between the governments of Moldova and of the State of Israel on legal cooperation in civil and commercial matters was signed on May 27, 2025.
