Moldovan parliament speaker says Tofan Government to receive parliament’s vote, to immediately get to work

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has praised the government’s activity programme presented by the designated prime minister, Vasile Tofan, describing it as a comprehensive and well-structured document focused on European integration and clear objectives for each area of activity. The speaker and the leader Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) expressed confidence that the new government would get the parliament’s vote of confidence and would begin its work without delay.

"It is a comprehensive, very detailed programme, with objectives for each sector and very clear targets. The red thread is, obviously, the process of European integration. Each chapter contains specific commitments for the negotiation chapters and clusters. I believe everyone will find in this programme elements related to their own area of competence," Igor Grosu said.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu expressed his confidence that the cabinet led by designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan would obtain the legislature’s vote of confidence.

"I expect all my colleagues to vote in favor, and within PAS there is unity. Today we will give a government, we will give a prime minister who will immediately get to work," the PAS leader said.

Referring to the opposition’s criticism, which claimed that the new cabinet would not last more than a few months, Grosu rejected these forecasts.

"Our opposition traditionally takes great interest in PAS governments. They constantly come up with predictions and forecasts that do not come true," Grosu said.

Asked about the relationship between the designated prime minister and the Party of Action and Solidarity, given that Vasile Tofan does not have political experience, Igor Grosu noted that the cooperation is very good.

"The relationship is very good, collegial. We discuss, we explain our positions, and he comes with his own approaches, including bold ideas. He has understood very quickly what politics means," Grosu said.

The PAS leader noted that Vasile Tofan’s professional profile, built in the field of investments and economic development, matches the main objectives of the new cabinet, which aims to boost the economy and attract investment.

At the same time, Igor Grosu emphasized that, despite regional and security challenges, Moldova must continue the European integration process and protect critical infrastructure, while maintaining the pace of reforms.

The designated prime minister, Vasile Tofan, presented the government programme in parliament. The mandate of the new government will focus on the direction, " Moldova – a European, safe and prosperous country, in which private initiative drives growth, and an efficient and competent state delivers quality public services that improve people’s lives."

Tofan said that the starting priority of the cabinet is to restore confidence, energy and initiative in the economy, and that "the ambition is for Moldova to become the most business-friendly European country for entrepreneurs."
