
Moldovan lawmaker Irina Lozovan sentenced to six years in prison
Lawmaker Irina Lozovan today was sentenced to six years in a closed-type prison in the case in which she is charging with illegal financing of a political party by an organized crime ring. The MP was not present in the courtroom and the court ordered putting her on a wanted list.
The sentence was announced by the magistrates of the Chisinau Court. Also today, Irina Lozovan's husband, prosecuted in the same case, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment.
The lawmaker is prosecuted along with her husband, Pavel Gârleanu, in a corruption case related to the illegal financing of the Revival Party, affiliated with the fugitive oligarch, Ilan Shor.
Lozovan, in her capacity of deputy and member of the Political Bureau of the political formation, allegedly accepted money from the organized crime ring led by Ilan Shor, in order to support the party's activities. The two would have tried to recruit the mayor of Ocnita city, with the promise of providing him money.
