Number of territorial prosecutor's offices decreases from 36 to 14 in Moldova

The new structure of territorial prosecutor's offices from Moldova, aligned with the judicial map, came into effect today.

The reform was approved by the order of Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu and aims to optimize the prosecutors' work and to combat such crimes as systemic corruption, human trafficking, cybercrime and drugs’ trafficking.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, following the mergers, certain prosecutor's offices have become secondary offices of the new regional structures, without ceasing their activities. Thus, the Balti Prosecutor's Office will be created by merging the prosecutor's offices of Falesti, Sangerei and Glodeni; the Edinet Prosecutor's Office – set up by the merger of the prosecutor's offices of Briceni and Ocnita; Cahul Prosecutor's Office – created by unifying the prosecutor's offices of Cantemir and Taraclia; Causeni Prosecutor's Office – the result of merging the prosecutor's offices of Anenii Noi, Stefan Voda and Bender; Orhei Prosecutor's Office – created by absorbing the Soldanesti prosecutor's office and merging the prosecutor's offices of Rezina and Telenesti; Ungheni Prosecutor's Office – the result of joining the prosecutor's offices of Nisporeni and Ungheni; the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia – set up by absorbing the Comrat, Ceadar-Lunga and Vulcanesti offices. The Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office stays unchanged.

The new structure aims to improve resource management efficiency, optimize public spending and enhance the quality of justice.
