Coordinated control at Cantemir–Fălciu border crossing: Agreement between governments of Moldova and Romania approved
5 November 2025, Chișinău – Coordinated control will be implemented at Cantemir (Republic of Moldova) – Fălciu (Romania) railway border crossing point on Romanian territory in both directions. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the Agreement between the governments of the two states, signed on 1 October in Bucharest.
Checks at a single point will ensure faster control, reducing waiting times and streamlining the flow of goods and people. Additionally, it will enhance state border security.
The reopening of the railway border crossing point will stimulate economic activity in the southern area of the country, supporting the local economy. At the same time, it will facilitate direct connection to the European Union's railway network.
Cantemir-Fălciu border crossing point will be the third to operate under the coordinated control concept implemented at the Moldovan-Romanian border.
Coordinated control involves conducting border control on the territory of a single state, in two distinct stages. Control is carried out by the exit state's authorities, in this case, Moldova, followed consecutively by the entry state's authorities – Romania. Authorities conduct their procedures separately, without overlap, but at the same crossing point, allowing for traffic streamlining without the need to move people or vehicles to two different locations.
