Moldova praised at PACE for reforms and democratic resilience

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi had a meeting today with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Petra Bayr, during which they discussed recent developments within the Council of Europe and the level of cooperation with the Republic of Moldova.

The officials reconfirmed the close partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe, highlighting the latter’s contribution over the past three decades to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting the rule of law, and protecting human rights in the country.

An important topic of discussion was Moldova’s exercise of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. In this context, the importance of organizing in Chișinău the meeting of the Committee of Ministers, which will bring together the foreign ministers of the 46 member states, was underlined.

The PACE President commended the resilience of the Republic of Moldova in combating disinformation and information manipulation, noting that the good practices developed by our country could serve as an example for other states. Support was also reaffirmed for continuing and deepening the partnership with the Republic of Moldova, including through PACE.

Petra Bayr expressed support for the successful completion of the Republic of Moldova’s mandate at the helm of the Committee of Ministers, emphasizing its relevance for promoting democratic values at the European level.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi signed a message in the PACE President’s “Golden Book,” in which he highlighted the role of the Parliamentary Assembly in strengthening democracy in the context of current geopolitical developments.
