Slovenia reaffirms support for Moldova's European integration

Slovenia reaffirms its support for the continuation of Moldova’s European integration process and for the implementation of the reforms required for EU accession. New Slovenia Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tone Kajzer has made statements to this effect, during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The Moldovan diplomacy head congratulated his Slovenian counterpart on taking office and wished him success in carrying out his mandate. The ministers praised the dialogue between the two countries and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest.

During the discussions, Mihai Popsoi highlighted Moldova’s interest in developing the bilateral economic relations, including through the relaunch of the Moldovan-Slovenian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation and the expansion of cooperation in the tourism field.

“I emphasized the importance of harnessing the commercial potential by promoting Moldovan products on the Slovenian market and boosting of contacts between the business communities of the two countries. We want the good cooperation between our states to materialize in concrete projects for citizens,” said Mihai Popsoi.

Deputy PM Mihai Popsoi thanked Slovenia for its constant support for the European path of Moldova and for backing an enlargement policy based on the assessment of the progress of each candidate state.

For his part, Minister Tone Kajzer congratulated Moldova on the opening of negotiations on Cluster 1 “Fundamental Values” and Cluster 6 “External Relations”.

The interlocutors also addressed prospects for cooperation in international organizations and regional formats, with a view to promoting common interests and strengthening stability in the region.

The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Slovenia were established on October 27, 1993. To date, the two countries have signed over 10 cooperation agreements in various fields.
