More mayoralties from north Moldova district involved in voluntary amalgamation

Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu today held a discussion with the mayors and local councilors of Brinzeni, Corpaci, Hancauti, Badragii Vechi and Burlanesti from the northern Edinet district, who have decided to undergo the process of voluntary amalgamation. The official said the government would provide incentives equivalent to half of their budgets for these five mayoralties.

“Today I had good discussions with the mayors and local councilors from Brinzeni, Corpaci, Hancauti, Badragii Vechi and Burlanesti, Edinet district. I am glad that here the process of unification and consolidation is advancing decisively. For these five mayoralties, the government will provide incentives equivalent to half of their budgets – important support for development and better services for people,” said Alexei Buzu.

Also today, the secretary general of the government discussed with the mayors and local councilors from Edinet, Hlinaia, Rotunda, Blesteni, Alexeevca and Hincauti, who have decided to join forces into a single, stronger mayoralty.

“This decision means more unity, more efficiency and better services for people. I thank them for their courage and commitment. May it bring good results,” emphasized Alexei Buzu.

So far, around 790 town halls across the country are involved in the process of voluntary amalgamation.

In late January, the government announced the launch of the preparation process for local public administration reform, as part of efforts to modernize administration and improve public services. Subsequently, the authorities organized extensive public consultations, after which the reform concept was presented.

The parliament has recently approved legislative amendments that simplify and improve the process of voluntary amalgamation of administrative and territorial units. According to the authorities, the changes were developed following consultations in which over 4,500 mayors and citizens participated. At present, more than 400 decisions to initiate the voluntary amalgamation process have been approved nationally.
