Prime Minister after last night’s attack on Kyiv: Republic of Moldova firmly stands with Ukraine

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu conveyed a message today in which he condemned last night’s attack on Ukraine, during which Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of Ukraine’s most important spiritual and cultural landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site was damaged.

"I strongly condemn Russia’s latest attack, which damaged the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra – one of Ukraine’s most important spiritual and cultural landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For nearly a thousand years, this sacred place has withstood wars and empires. Today, it has become a new target of Russia’s aggression,” Alexandru Munteanu wrote in his message posted on the X platform.

The official stressed that when residential areas, critical infrastructure, and cultural heritage sites are attacked, “these are no longer military actions, but deliberate attacks on a nation’s identity, history, and people.”

In this context, Munteanu reconfirmed the Republic of Moldova’s support for Ukraine.

“The Republic of Moldova firmly stands with Ukraine,” the official said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister underlined that he will have a meeting today with Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko, during which he will reaffirm “our solidarity and our shared commitment to peace, freedom, and security in our region.”

On the night of 15 June 2026, Russia launched a new wave of attacks on several regions of Ukraine, with Kyiv and Kharkiv being the most affected. The preliminary toll indicates at least nine people killed and dozens wounded, including five rescuers who died during intervention operations.

In Kyiv, one of the airstrikes caused a fire at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the monastic complex included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of the most important religious symbols of Ukraine and a UNESCO site has previously been affected by Russian attacks in the context of the war launched by the Russian Federation. UNESCO had earlier warned that Ukraine’s cultural heritage is exposed to major risk.
