Moldovan president meets German foreign affairs minister, on visit to Chisinau
President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Johann Wadephul, during his first visit to Chisinau since taking office in May 2025. The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two countries, as well as their joint commitment to promoting peace and security in the region.
President Sandu expressed gratitude for the solid support provided by Germany in managing recent crises, including essential contributions in the energy sector - support that has helped reduce the burden of invoices for citizens. She also highlighted the support for projects that improve living standards, such as the expansion of water and sewage networks in Cahul, Calarasi and Straseni, and for strengthening the defence sector.
The head of state appreciated Germany's active role, as a founding country of the European Union, in supporting Moldova's European path and in developing the national economy. Germany is a key trading partner and an important source of direct foreign investments, which bring innovation and generate secure and well-paid jobs.
The discussions also addressed the need to ensure fair parliamentary elections and free from external influences.
