Moldova to receive 3-million-euro grant for construction of Bălți hospital

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) have signed a grant agreement worth 3 million euros, aimed at preparing the project for the construction of Bălți Regional Hospital. The funding is provided by the European Union through the Neighborhood Investment Platform and marks an important step in the reform of the national hospital system.

The grant will cover the initial phase of the project, including the development of the concept and the technical documentation for the future hospital, which will become a reference medical center for the north of the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, after completion, scheduled for 2028, the Bălți Regional Hospital will serve approximately one million people, significantly contributing to improving access to modern and resilient health services.

The project is aligned with the main national strategies, including Health 2030, European Moldova 2030, National Development Plan for 2025–2027, and Action Plan on EU accession. It is also part of the EU's Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova (2025–2027) – the most extensive financial package offered to the country since independence.

The project will be implemented by the Project Implementation Unit within the Ministry of Health, in partnership with CEB and the European Union Delegation to Moldova.
