Moldovan-Kazakh bilateral relations discussed in Astana

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi paid an official visit to Astana to meet Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu. This is the first official visit of a Moldovan diplomatic head to Kazakhstan since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 1992.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the intensification of economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries. The two ministers emphasized the significant potential of bilateral relations, highlighting that the volume of Moldovan-Kazakh foreign trade surpassed 40 million dollars in 2024.

"Kazakhstan is an important partner for the Republic of Moldova in Central Asia. We aim to transform our dialogue into a concrete economic partnership that provides real benefits for citizens and opportunities for business communities in both countries. In this regard, the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Astana represents an important step in strengthening our diplomatic presence in the region," said Popșoi.

In this context, the intention was expressed to convene the Moldovan-Kazakh joint commission for economic cooperation, a crucial platform for promoting investments and identifying joint projects in areas such as energy, agriculture, tourism and culture.

The official also spoke about the European path of the Republic of Moldova, highlighting the country's commitment to a democratic and prosperous future.

The Kazakh counterpart welcomed the visit and expressed the Kazakh authorities' openness to developing bilateral relations and launching new projects, including a possible direct air route between the two countries.

"Kazakhstan considers the Republic of Moldova a trustworthy partner, committed to developing robust cooperation. We aim to strengthen a long-term partnership in the spirit of friendship and mutual support," said Nurtleu.

At the end of the meeting, Popșoi invited his counterpart to pay an official visit to the Republic of Moldova.
