VIDEO // Moldovan PM answers citizens' questions: "I want changes in our country to become visible"
The priority of the government led by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu is to improve the living standards of citizens, which includes the economic development of Moldova and well-paid jobs. This is how the prime minister answered citizens' questions about what Alexandru Munteanu can do for the country, why he has an accent when speaking, and whether he is satisfied with the government’s team.
In a video post on social media, Alexandru Munteanu says that he is answering questions gathered from people.
"I want changes in our country to become visible – a growing economy, better-paid jobs, improved medical services. I believe that many things need to be done. The biggest priority is to make everyone's life better," the prime minister said.
Another question addressed the prime minister's speaking accent. The accent is not Russian, but rather Ukrainian, explained Alexandru Munteanu, emphasizing that he speaks five languages fluently and knows several others, having lived in many countries throughout his life.
"I was born in Moldova, but I have lived in many countries – about 40. I speak five languages well, and I get by with another five. Honestly, I believe my accent is not entirely Russian. I rarely speak Russian. My accent is Ukrainian, because I speak Ukrainian more often than Russian, but also other languages. I think this affects me, but I speak five absolutely different languages," Munteanu said.
At the same time, the PM noted that he was quite satisfied with the team he leads, as it is made up of professionals and enthusiastic people.
"Yes, I am pleased to work with people, many of whom I have known personally, while others I have recently met. They are highly motivated, enthusiastic and their eyes light up. I like it when people enjoy what they do," Munteanu said.
On November 1, Alexandru Munteanu took over the leadership of Moldova’s government, created after the parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025. The government programme assumed by the cabinet led by Alexandru Munteanu is titled, EU, Peace, Development.
"After years of reforms and institutional consolidation, the mission of the new government is to bring tangible benefits to the people through European integration – major investments for a competitive economy, well-paid jobs, accessible public services and a friendly state that meets the real needs of the society," the document reads.
According to the programme, the European integration represents a historic opportunity for Moldova to fully capitalize on its human, economic and cultural potential. This process should mark the transition from promises to results, bringing coherence in development policies and accountability in the use of resources.
The document also reads that "hundreds and even thousands of actions are to be undertaken during this mandate," and the government "will be guided by the commitments already assumed through national development strategies, programmes and plans, the reform and European integration agenda, as well as the EU 2028 programme, supported by the majority of citizens."
