Moldova, Greece to sign memorandum of cooperation in culture

The Republic of Moldova and Greece are boosting the cooperation in culture. The opportunity to sign a memorandum between the two states was discussed in Athens during a visit by Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan.

The cooperation will focus on the restoration of built heritage and the promotion of Baukultur. During an official meeting in Athens, Prodan and his Greek counterpart, Lina Mendoni discussed the exchange of best practices and organization of joint projects.

According to Prodan, a first step in promoting and restoring cultural heritage could take place in September.

“This initiative aims to strengthen bilateral relations and facilitate the transfer of expertise in the cultural heritage conservation and use. A first step could take place as early as this September, when experts and architects from the Republic of Moldova are invited to a forum of specialists in the restoration of historical monuments.”

Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni emphasized the importance of the involvement of the Moldovan diaspora in cultural cooperation between the two countries and appreciated the efforts of Moldovans living in Greece to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova.

“Today marks the starting point of a systematic collaboration in the field of culture, in which all Moldovans who have chosen to live in Greece can be part of this wonderful partnership. We are truly very, very proud of the work you are doing in the field of culture, preserving the cultural heritage of your homeland and bringing it to Greece.”

During the visit to Athens, Prodan also met with Moldovan diaspora. Discussions focused on the importance of preserving cultural identity and the role of cultural projects in strengthening ties between overseas communities and their country of origin.

As appreciation for active involvement in promoting national values, the minister awarded certificates of recognition to the most active members of the Moldovan community in Greece.
