Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova inaugurated today two modern virtual medicine rooms, made possible due to an IT equipment donation for the Pathology Department worth over 2.2 million lei. The project is financed by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) under the Romanian Government, through the Digitalization of Education program, 2nd edition.

The two rooms will provide students and faculty with access to advanced technologies that enable interactive and multidimensional learning and research.

During the inauguration ceremony, DRRM representative Ioana Nicula emphasized Romania's ongoing support in developing Moldova's educational system.

'The Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova continues the actions for the digitalization of the educational process. We have provided state-of-the-art equipment, an integrated system that will significantly improve learning conditions. We invest in education, we invest in the future and we want students to make the most of these opportunities', stated the Romanian official.

The donation includes virtual/mixed reality glasses and headsets, high-performance notebooks, interactive boards with mobile support, a 360° panoramic camera, a USB charging station and specialized accessories. The total value of the equipment is 577,668.51 RON, equivalent to over 2,248,459 MDL.

The head of the Morphopathology Department, Eugen Melnic, noted the practical utility of the equipment.

'The implementation of three-dimensional images allows the study of anatomy, physiology, and the human body's structure at a higher level. Students can simulate medical procedures and practice in a completely safe environment, which contributes to their professional training and quality medical practice', Eugen Melnic said.

By using VR/MR simulations, students can explore anatomical structures in detail, repeat surgical procedures and analyze complex biological ecosystems in real-time. Additionally, immersive platforms facilitate collaboration between researchers and doctors from different university centers, accelerating research and technology transfer processes.

Before the inauguration, the handover-receipt document of the goods was signed by Olga Cernețchi, USMF's First Vice-Rector, and Ana Maria Dumitroiu-Sofâlcă, DRRM service head. The new technologies will be used within both preclinical and clinical departments, in Teaching Block No. 1 and the Republican Clinical Hospital 'Timofei Moșneagă'.

The investment consolidates the shift of medical education towards an advanced digital standard, opening new perspectives in training health professionals — an essential step for the Medicine of the future in the Republic of Moldova.

Romania's support extends nationwide: 40 educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova are set to receive laptops, interactive boards, printers, and modern desktops through the same program. In recent years, the DRRM-MEC collaboration has generated impactful educational projects, such as rewarding olympiad winners, providing students with supplies and access to digital study resources.
