Moldovan parliament speaker has discussions with speaker of House of Representatives of Ireland's parliament

Ireland will open a diplomatic mission in Moldova, which will contribute to strengthening the dialogue between the two states. At the same time, the sides will initiate negotiations on an Agreement, in order to provide social guarantees to Moldovans residing in Ireland. The subjects were discussed at a meeting between Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Ireland's Parliament Verona Murphy.

The Moldovan speaker said that he had discussed with the Irish official "the very good relations" between the two countries and the European path of Moldova.

"I thanked for every support on behalf of Ireland enjoyed by our country on its European path and I expressed interest for our countries to collaborate even more, including in the commercial and tourism sectors," the speaker noted.

A topic addressed by the two officials concerns the mutual recognition of the driving licenses. Igor Grosu informed that government of Moldova today had approved the initiation of official negotiations on this subject.

"We agreed to advance on this agreement and also to initiate negotiations on the Agreement that will provide social guarantees to Moldovans residing in Ireland," said Igor Grosu.

The Moldovan parliament speaker emphasized that the relationship between the two countries was becoming increasingly consolidated, and evidence of this is the fact that "soon" Moldova will have an Irish Embassy. This will help the authorities boost dialogue and work together, in order to take care of the community of Moldovans residing in Ireland, Igor Grosu informed.

The official added that Ireland served as an example for Moldova, particularly regarding how it successfully became one of the world's most prosperous countries after joining the EU, and also how it benefited from its large Diaspora, which contributed to the country's development.

"We want to follow their example and continue to collaborate and strengthen our relations, which have great potential," concluded the speaker.

Also in Dublin, Igor Grosu met the presidents of two committees from Ireland's Parliament: John Paul O'Shea, president of the Committee for Social Protection, Rural and Community Development, and Michael Murphy, president of the Committee for Transport.

"I reiterated the interest of Moldova’s parliament in advancing the creation of the parliamentary friendship group and expanding bilateral relations in more priority areas. On this occasion, I thanked for the support Moldova is receiving on behalf of Ireland. We need expertise on our European path and are making considerable efforts to develop the country and become a reliable partner for European countries," Igor Grosu added.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu is on a working visit to the parliaments of the United Kingdom and Ireland on June 29-July 2.
