Free movement of goods, bilateral screening in Brussels

Moldovan government representatives are discussing the free movement of goods in Brussels. The action takes place within the bilateral screening of the Republic of Moldova - European Union. Our country's delegation is led by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov. Prior to the screening, representatives of the authorities in Chisinau explained in a video post on social media the importance of this process for the development of Moldova's economy.

Sitting at the same table with the representatives of the Government of the Republic of Moldova are European experts analyzing Chapter I “Free Movement of Goods” from Cluster 2 “Internal Market” of the National Action Plan on carrying out our country's criteria for joining the European Union.

“Implementing the policies in this chapter will ensure barrier-free trade of goods between member states, bring a greater diversity of products for the citizens, as well as higher safety and quality standards. Moreover, this will open new opportunities for producers and consumers, attract investors, and contribute to the recognition of the quality of Moldovan products throughout the European Union,” stated Cristina Gherasimov.

State Secretary of the Ministry for Economic Development and Digitalization Cristina Ceban emphasized that adopting European norms in this area will support the development of the local business environment and facilitate the access of Moldovan producers to the EU market.

“Implementing the policies in this chapter will ensure barrier-free trade of goods with member states, greater product diversity for our citizens, higher safety and quality standards for all of us here at home, new opportunities for producers and consumers, more attractive conditions for investors, recognition of the quality of Moldovan products throughout the European Union,” stated Cristina Ceban.

Another essential aspect is mentioned by adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Daniel Bodiștean - this process will support and consolidate the economic position of the Republic of Moldova within the European Union.

“Besides the economic aspects, adopting European norms in this chapter will encourage the development of the local business environment, will facilitate the access of our producers to the EU market and will stimulate industrial development, which means new, better-paid jobs,” he said.

In December 2023, the European Council decided to open accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova to the EU. Bilateral screening sessions are held in accordance with the provisions of the Negotiation Framework with the Republic of Moldova, approved by the Republic of Moldova-European Union Intergovernmental Conference.
