Moldova, Ukraine to cooperate in European integration process; Memorandum signed in Warsaw
Moldova and Ukraine reaffirm their commitment to follow the European integration way and will cooperate in the process of accession to the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna signed a memorandum to this effect in Warsaw today.
The memorandum establishes the framework of cooperation between the institutions in charge of the accession to EU between the two countries and will encourage the exchange of experience and good practices, such as the approximation of the national legislation to the EU’s acquis, management of European funds and reforms’ implementation.
„The partnership which we concluded today is a reaffirmation of our common commitment to edify a European future, a prosperous and safe life for the citizens of both countries.’’
The memorandum sees periodical meetings of the chief negotiators and of the negotiating groups of Moldova and Ukraine. Also, a joint working group will be created within the partnership for European integration of the two countries.
„I am happy to sign today a document, which does nothing but strengthens the cooperation of the two countries on the way of accession to EU. Despite the times of world unrest, the European integration stays an unchanged objective for our countries and we are ready to move towards it hand in hand,’’ Olha Stefanishyna said.
In 2022, shortly after Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, the Kiev and Chisinau authorities officially submitted the applications on accession to the European Union. In the same year, Moldova and Ukraine became countries candidate for accession to EU.
„Three years ago, Moldova and Ukraine chose the way of accession to EU. We managed, on such a short period, to advance in the accession process and now we prepare to start the negotiations for the first group of chapters,’’ Cristina Gherasimov said.
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov is on a working visit to Warsaw. Today morning, Gherasimov participated in an informal meeting of the European Union’s General Affairs Council. The deputy PM said that Moldova benefited from the continuous support of the European Union’s institutions and member states, in order to advance on the European integration way and become EU member state.
